Top tips from Europe’s leading travel buyers

Three of Europe’s most respected corporate travel managers share their shortcuts to a smarter, more efficient travel programme.

Michael Strange
Michael Strange
Global Corporate Travel and Risk Manager
Cambridge University Press & Assessment
Making your programme more efficient
“It’s about the optics of it all, focusing on getting true end-to-end visibility through a genuine ‘one stop shop’ experience. If travellers can access booking platforms, travel support, country risk information and itineraries all in one place, it not only gives the organisation better oversight and control, it cuts out fragmentation, avoids duplicated effort and simplifies how everything runs.”
Shortcut top tip
“Take the friction out of the process. By properly listening to users, you can translate what they need and find ways to match it to the wider business requirements — making solutions feel almost specifically designed for them.”

Jacquie Peebles
Jacquie Peebles
Head of Travel Services
SSE
Making your programme more efficient
“Aim for as much of a self-serve, one stop shop platform as you can. Keep everything in one place for booking, billing and data. It makes it easy for travellers to book without visiting multiple places, you get consolidated data from one source, and your support teams can provide added-value services rather than repetitive booking processes.”
Shortcut top tip
“Stay curious, never hesitate to ask ‘Why?’ When a passenger tells you something’s not suitable, asking why — often multiple times — will not only get you to the root cause of the problem but help you think differently to make a positive change.”
Hear Jacquie speak at BTSE →
Ana Cristiano James
Ana Cristiano James
Global Travel Lead
Flutter Entertainment
Making your programme more efficient
“Make sure your travel programme is built around the people actually using it. You can have the best policy, the best tools and the best suppliers, but if travellers don’t understand it, trust it or feel it works for them, it won’t land. Efficiency comes from making things simple, clear and joined up.”
Shortcut top tip
“Don’t overcomplicate it — listen first, then fix the friction. Some of the best improvements come from small, practical changes that make life easier for travellers and give the business better visibility and control.”
