Investing in the future: Why the Business Travel Show student programme matters now more than ever
)
At a time when the travel and meetings industry continues to navigate transformation, disruption and innovation, one thing remains clear: the future depends on talent. Fresh ideas, diverse voices and forward-thinking leadership are essential to sustaining the evolution of corporate travel—and that’s precisely why the Business Travel Show Europe Student Programme exists.
Now in its third year, this initiative was created to support and inspire students pursuing careers in travel, tourism, hospitality and related fields. While the industry at large may not yet fully realise the programme's impact, it has quietly become a vital part of our mission to nurture up-and-coming professionals and bridge the gap between education and enterprise.
A Launchpad for the Next Generation
Each year, the Student Programme welcomes university students to attend Business Travel Show Europe in London for an exclusive, curated experience. From hosted tours and tailored content to networking opportunities with buyers, suppliers and thought leaders, the programme demystifies the world of business travel and offers invaluable exposure to its complexity, challenges and rewards.
Students don’t just attend sessions—they’re introduced to the people shaping the industry, encouraged to ask questions, and empowered to visualise their place in this dynamic sector. Many go on to secure internships, placements and jobs through the connections and insights they gain during the event.
“A Vital Bridge Between Study and Industry”
David Meyer, Executive Director of Conference Content & Strategy at The BTN Group, speaks passionately about the importance of this programme.
“The Student Programme is vital in bridging the gap between academic studies and the dynamic world of corporate travel. By providing students with direct access to industry leaders and real-world experiences, we're not only educating but also inspiring the next generation of travel professionals. Introducing students to the many opportunities available in business travel is a revelation for them, rewarding for us, and a potential boon to an industry hungry for new talent.”
This ethos has guided the development of the programme from day one, and it’s the reason we’re now proud to announce its expansion.
“Attending the Business Travel Show as a student truly opened my eyes to the depth and diversity of the business travel industry. It was both inspiring and motivating to be in that environment, surrounded by professionals and real-world insight. It made me feel like I was part of something bigger and gave me a clearer direction for my future.” University of Westminster full-time MA Tourism Management programme student
Coming to America: A New Chapter Begins
For the first time this autumn, the Business Travel Show Student Programme will cross the Atlantic, debuting at Business Travel Show America. Bringing this proven model to the US reflects our long-term commitment to global industry growth and inclusion. It also recognises that the need to engage young professionals is not just a European priority—it’s a global imperative.
The programme will maintain its core values—education, exposure and empowerment—while tailoring its content and format to suit the North American market. Expect expert-led sessions, mentoring moments and exclusive behind-the-scenes access designed to connect students with employers and decision-makers.
