InterContinental Barcelona Renovates Its Meeting Rooms and Common Areas to Consolidate Its Position as a Leading MICE Venue in Europe
InterContinental Barcelona has unveiled the full renovation of its meeting and convention spaces, reinforcing its position as one of Europe’s leading MICE hotels. The transformation blends design, technological innovation, and sustainability to offer companies and event organizers more versatile, luminous, and future-ready spaces.
A Main Floor of 1,500 m² Featuring the Largest Ballroom in Central Barcelona
The ground-floor meeting space has been conceived as a broad, multifunctional area with high ceilings and more than 1,500 m² of surface. The highlight is the Verdi Ballroom, considered the crown jewel: nearly 800 m² of open-plan space that now feels even more spectacular thanks to the incorporation of scenic windows, a technological solution that replicates natural light and creates a refreshing sense of connection with the outdoors.
Verdi also features a screen over 12 meters wide, equipped with the most advanced technology on the market—ideal for large-scale conventions and presentations. On this same floor are the Rossini and Vivaldi rooms, perfect as breakout spaces, complemented by the iconic garden terrace, which provides a naturally bright and open-air setting between both venues.
A Second Floor of 1,000 m² with Eight Renovated Rooms
The renovation also extends to the lower floor, which encompasses nearly 1,000 m² divided among eight fully refurbished meeting rooms. Among them, Rubí and Zafir stand out, also incorporating scenic windows to maximize brightness and create more inspiring environments for meetings and private celebrations.
An Internationally Recognized MICE Benchmark
With this comprehensive renovation, InterContinental Barcelona now offers companies and event planners a total of 3,000 m² for congresses and conventions, spread across 22 soundproofed rooms with capacity for up to 800 delegates in theater format or 500 in banquet style.
The hotel has already been recognized this year (2025) in the Cvent Top Meeting Hotels ranking as one of the continent’s most outstanding event venues, and this renovation further strengthens its leadership in the European MICE sector.
The update is completed with a strong commitment to innovation and sustainability: 5G connectivity, digital signage, locally sourced menus, food waste reduction, and services designed to streamline setups and enhance every event experience.
