Interview With Adam Hickingbotham, Procurement Manager – Travel, Corporate Procurement, AtkinsRéalis and member of the Business Travel Show Europe advisory board.
Business Travel Show Europe takes place 24-25 June 2026 at Excel London. Travel managers can register for free at www.businesstravelshoweurope.com
What impact is current geopolitical tension having on your travel programme and planning?
We still currently have restrictions in place for travel to the Middle East, however, “local” travel has been approved. Our nights in the Middle East have therefore dropped significantly and this could have an impact on our 2027 hotel RFP. Airlines wise, we will be implementing a new approval process to capture anticipated fare increases in the future.
Has your focus on duty of care and traveller risk changed as a result and, if so, how?
We don’t manage duty of care. This is done by global security so no change.
In what ways are you already / planning to apply AI in your programme?
We only use AI to help with messaging and communication
Do you have concerns about AI that might prevent you from integrating it in your programme?
Not at all; the company embraces AI.
Why are you looking forward to attending Business Travel Show Europe? What’s your number one priority?
I’m looking forward to the networking and learning from my peers
Please share a shortcut tip to more innovative travel management.
My tip is a sustainability one - push e-tickets as much as you can for rail as the strip on the back of the ticket is not recyclable.
